Mae Eudy

Mae Eudy 43Mae Eudy, 2nd Grade

Norman  Elementary

Mae Eudy was a relatively late comer to the Norman area.  She was living in Dover, Arkansas when her husband passed away, at the age of forty.  She came to Norman in 1937 with her daughter, who had taken a teaching job there.

Miss Eudy was the daughter of John and Emma (Turner) Forrest of Dover.  She was born May 9, 1894.  She was married on December 18, 1915, to Fred Eudy.  They only had one child, Freida.    Before coming to Norman, Fred and Mae operated a store in Dover.  After Fred’s death, she sold the store to move with Freida.

Mae held a B.S.E. from Henderson in Arkadelphia, which she obtained in 1953.  She was known to all as the second grade teacher at Norman, for she taught that grade throughout her teaching career.

During her life Miss Eudy was dedicated to her family, her church, and to teaching.  She was a telephone operator in Norman, as well as a member of the Norman Garden Club.  Miss Eudy passed away on November 13, 1977.

I’ve added a title to the following poem written by Miss Eudy.

Life’s Duty

The gentle wind through the rustling leaves

The song of birds and the buzzing of bees.

Make music to soothe the weary to rest

And cause the spirit to be blest.

God’s green earth is lovely to see,

And helps bring happiness to you and to me,

If we count our blessings pray for more grace,

To us the world will be a beautiful place.

We each should live from day to day

That we may help someone along life’s way

And strive to do the best we can

That we may server our fellowman.
