1st grad CVA Graduating Class of Caddo Valley Academy

1924

L-R: Ms. Anna Orton, teacher/sponsor; Fay McCaskill; Adele Holmes; Cora Cox; Tillman Witherspoon; Bernice Montgomery, Effie Bates.

This photo has been passed down through the years as the first graduating class of Caddo Valley Academy.  However, The Mena Star reported a story which gave the construction date as beginning in May 1924, and the building wasn't finished until 1925.

Caddo Valley Academy, (CVA) first opened as a high school in 1921, and classes were held in the grade school building on the hill, in what was then known as Womble, Arkansas.  The name was changed to Norman, Arkansas in June 1925, but the name of the high school did not change until the end of the 1930 school year, when it became known as Norman High School.

For a full history of the school and pictures of all the graduating classes you can order our CVA/NHS History Book.  This hardback book is now on sale for $10, plus shipping.  Order Here.
